Introducing a unique and non-toxic twist on the usual carnivore breakfast casserole: the Savory Beef and Egg Custard Bake. This recipe emphasizes clean, high-quality animal-based ingredients and utilizes gentle cooking methods to minimize the formation of harmful compounds like advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and heterocyclic amines (HCAs).
Savory Beef and Egg Custard Bake
Bake time: 45min. Serves 6-8.
Ingredients
1 lb (450g) grass-fed ground beef
12 large pasture-raised eggs
1 cup (240ml) organic heavy cream
1 cup (100g) shredded raw milk cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tbsp grass-fed butter or ghee
Sea salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste (optional)
Instructions
Preheat Oven: Set the oven to 325°F (163°C).
Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch (23x33 cm) glass or 100% ceramic baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter or ghee.
Cook Ground Beef:
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter or ghee.
Add the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces, and cook until browned and fully cooked.
Season with sea salt and optional black pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Prepare Egg Mixture:
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream until well combined.
If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese. Optionally, reserve some to top the casserole.
Assemble Casserole:
Evenly spread the cooked ground beef in the prepared baking dish.
Pour the egg and cream mixture over the beef, ensuring it distributes evenly.
Top with reserved shredded cheddar cheese, if using.
Bake:
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden.
To check for doneness, insert a knife into the center; it should come out clean.
Cool and Serve:
Remove from the oven and allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
Serve warm.
